Almost everything is possible these days. We thought it would be
a nice idea to show some live video here, but with the amount
visitors of our website we get every day, this would be too
demanding for our webservers. So we decided to compromise a
bit. A number of cameras in our facility will send a picture
to our webserver in Amsterdam, based on motion detection. We
show the last 4 picture here. This is a fully automated proces,
and requires no human intervention whatsoever.
During the day these pictures are refreshed quite often, because
there is more action. During the evening there's little to see.
Camera 1, aimed at the front door, is a VTLY1566A camera with inrared support.
When it's dark, the letters on the front door are white instead of blue.
Infrared leds only generate a single frequency of light, and all
colour information is lost. You can see the parking at the front,
at night there is still some colour to be seen.
Camera 2 is also aimed at the front door. This is a LY1221 camera, with
a zoom lens fitted. This camera switches to B/W when it gets dark.
At night, this camera benefits from the infrared light from camera 1.
Only during the day, the images are in colour.
Camera 3 is a PT (pan/tilt) VTLY2601 camera, which can pan and
tilt by remote control. This can be done locally, or from any
place in the world where you have internet acces.
Camera 4 is on the 2nd floor and placed behind the window. Not an ideal
setup, because the office lights sometimes reflect in the window.
It would be much better to install this camera in an outdoor enclosure.
Perhaps we will change this camera later.
All these images can be seen live, but only by us. As we explained earlier,
it is too costly to allow a large public to view these cameras live.
But if acces can be limited to the individual, or a small group, it is
relative easy to build a satisfying system. It makes no difference where
you are, at your office or at your home. You can watch these cameras
from any place where you have internet acces. You can also search back
in time, from hours to weeks or even more.
